Meet the Team Attending RVS
Paul Andrews
CEO, PoloWorks and PMA
With a focus on both underwriting and operational management, Paul has extensive knowledge and experience of both the Lloyd’s and non-Lloyd’s markets. In recent years he ran London Market Consultancy firm Beachwood which supported their Insurer Client base across a diverse range of projects which include Underwriting Control framework design and support, operational transformation and DUA management and strategic support.
Paul was part of the management team that went through the first Syndicate turn-key at Lloyd’s (Syndicate 1955), which eventually became Barbican Managing Agency, where he was Operations Director. Paul was also the founder and COO of Castel Underwriting Agencies. Castel was the first turn-key MGA operation which used both third-party and aligned capacity from its parent Barbican (Syndicate 1955) to launch specialty underwriting cells. Prior to Barbican Paul was a Senior Manager at QBE European Operations, overseeing underwriting performance.
Richard Lawson
CEO, PCIS
With over 37 years of insurance industry experience – most recently at Pro Global as Group Head of Claims, and prior roles including COO, CEO UK & Germany and Head of Client Engagement and Consulting – Richard has a successful track record of developing corporate strategies, creating and re-engineering significant operational functions whilst ensuring risk, regulatory and governance procedures, processes and requirements remain aligned.
Richard’s experience encompasses Accounting, Claims, Reinsurance, Strategic Change Management, Business Development, Consultancy, Operations and customer engagement.
Mark Elliott
CEO, PIM and PoloPartners
Mark brings over 20 years of insurance experience, having held diverse roles spanning from Underwriting to New Business, and eventually to leading rated reinsurance companies. With a comprehensive understanding across multiple industry sectors, Mark’s previous experience includes serving as Client Service Director at Artex Risk Solutions, Chief Underwriting Officer for a leading ILS fund vehicle, and Global Director of ILS at Aon.
At present, Mark serves as CEO of Marco Re, a respected legacy reinsurance carrier, and heads both Polo Insurance Managers, offering bespoke captive, ILS, and commercial insurance management solutions and PoloPartners, providing tech-enabled, end to end, insurance management services. Based in Guernsey and equipped with ACII qualifications, Mark excels in crafting tailored strategies and supporting clients through every phase of their business ventures.
Jenny Hummerston
New Business Director, PMA
Jenny has over 35 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s Insurance Market, including ten years underwriting before moving to roles relating to underwriting management and operations. Jenny has extensive experience and technical knowledge of new syndicate applications, underwriting, claims, reinsurance, underwriting systems and management information.
Jenny has worked at PMA since 2015, including over 5 years as Director of Underwriting (DoU). She has recently relinquished her DoU role to focus more exclusively on new business opportunities and syndicate onboarding.
Phil Smith
MD, PMA
Phil has over 35 years insurance experience in both the Lloyd’s and London market including extensive experience in third party management, schemes of arrangement and prudential regulation.
Starting his career with a small insurance broker in 1983, Phil moved into the management of third-party run-off companies. He then joined the Prudential Regulation Authority as an insurance supervisor in 2012 before joining Lloyd’s of London in 2014 where he worked as an oversight manager. Phil has taken new syndicate start-ups through the approval process at Lloyd’s and has a complete understanding of Lloyd’s requirements and capital assessments. He joined Polo Managing Agency in September 2019.
