Paul Andrews
CEO, PoloWorks and PMA

With a focus on both underwriting and operational management, Paul has extensive knowledge and experience of both the Lloyd’s and non-Lloyd’s markets.  In recent years he ran London Market Consultancy firm Beachwood which supported their Insurer Client base across a diverse range of projects which include Underwriting Control framework design and support, operational transformation and DUA management and strategic support.

Paul was part of the management team that went through the first Syndicate turn-key at Lloyd’s (Syndicate 1955), which eventually became Barbican Managing Agency, where he was Operations Director. Paul was also the founder and COO of Castel Underwriting Agencies. Castel was the first turn-key MGA operation which used both third-party and aligned capacity from its parent Barbican (Syndicate 1955) to launch specialty underwriting cells. Prior to Barbican Paul was a Senior Manager at QBE European Operations, overseeing underwriting performance.

Richard Lawson

With over 37 years of insurance industry experience – most recently at Pro Global as Group Head of Claims, and prior roles including COO, CEO UK & Germany and Head of Client Engagement and Consulting – Richard has a successful track record of developing corporate strategies, creating and re-engineering significant operational functions whilst ensuring risk, regulatory and governance procedures, processes and requirements remain aligned.

Richard’s experience encompasses Accounting, Claims, Reinsurance, Strategic Change Management, Business Development, Consultancy, Operations and customer engagement.

Paul Wooldridge
COO, PoloWorks

Paul is a senior client relationship and operations director with a proven track record of operational delivery and transformational change within a number of operational areas.

Paul has extensive knowledge across both the London Market insurance and reinsurance sectors and has managed high profile operational areas delivering pre and post placement services including claims. Previously, Paul held various senior operational and management roles within Marsh and Guy Carpenter before joining Polo in 2005.

Kath Gioiosa
MD, London Market Services, PCIS

Previously Operations Director of Underwriting Services. Kath has extensive knowledge of the business and wider industry and has been with Polo since 2000, holding a number of technical management roles.

Kath has worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years and prior to Polo held various technical and operational roles in Trinity Square Services and English & American Group.

Phil Smith

Phil has over 35 years insurance experience in both the Lloyd’s and London market including extensive experience in third party management, Schemes of Arrangement and prudential regulation.

Starting his career with a small insurance broker in 1983, Phil moved into the management of third-party run-off companies. He then joined the Prudential Regulation Authority as an insurance supervisor in 2012 before joining Lloyd’s of London in 2014 where he worked as an oversight manager. Phil has taken new syndicate start-ups through the approval process at Lloyd’s and has a complete understanding of Lloyd’s requirements and capital assessments. He joined Polo Managing Agency in September 2019.

Matthew Bishop

Matt joined the business in 2023 and is a Fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountants Association, having qualified in 2007.  With over 15 years’ experience, Matt has held a number of finance positions across the London Market, most recently at Canopius, as the Group Head of Finance and Managing Agency Finance Director, where he managed all aspects of finance from regulatory reporting, through to planning and analysis. 

In addition to being an experienced finance leader in the insurance/reinsurance sector, he has experience of offshore service delivery models, near-shore delivery and in-house operations, using his financial and process knowledge to support other business functions.

Simon Hancock

Simon has been successfully driving change and delivering results within the financial services and business outsourcing sector for more than 25 years.  A proven influencer, he has been involved in disposals & acquisitions and bringing about technological and process changes, particularly within Capita, where he integrated businesses into the brand, delivering benefits that exceeded the original targets. He was also part of the senior management team that turned around the Risk Services business at Zurich from a sub-scale operator to a key cash generator for the group.
